March 22 (Saturday) - Don’t forget to bring the family down to Brengle Terrace Park, 1200 Vale Terrace, on for an ‘egg’straordinary Egg Hunt! The City of Vista has festivities for the entire family to enjoy beginning with the bonnet contest at 10 a.m. and the egg hunt at 10:45 a.m. This event is open to all Vista residents with a $2 per child suggested donation. The Easter event will include various arts and crafts projects, family games and the annual Egg Hunt. The contest age groups are under 3 years, 3 years, 4 years, 5 to 6 years, 7 to 8 years, and 9 to 10 years. The annual homemade bonnet contest will also have a winner chosen in three categories: funniest, prettiest and most creative. The Easter Bunny will also be available during the event for pictures. Sponsors for the Easter Celebration include Fresh & Easy and Abrakadoodle Art Education supporting two activity booths; Children’s Paradise is sponsoring the four-year old hunt area; Round Table Pizza is sponsoring the 5-6 year-old hunt area; and Boomers! is our Golden Egg sponsor for 2008. April 12 (Saturday) -The City of Vista and Sunrise Vista Kiwanis are sponsoring “Cooking Up Music,” presented by the San Diego Symphony. The interactive performance introduces young minds to classical instruments and musical composition. Assistant Conductor and American Conducting Fellow Philip Mann will direct and narrate selections of Mozart, Bach, Grieg and Strauss, played by 15 symphony members. While on stage, Chef Jacques will demonstrate the similarities between the ingredients of a cake and the ingredients of music. The concert will be performed at 10:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. Tickets are $5 per child (under 12) and $10 per adult and are on sale now at the VisTix Ticket Office, located at 600 Eucalyptus Avenue in Vista. The fun and educational show is geared towards children in kindergarten through 3rd grade, focusing on instruments and musical composition. Children will learn about the ingredients needed to “cook up” a piece of music: instruments, dynamics and tempo. Attendees will build a musical cake on stage as they learn about music. Proceeds from this event will benefit the Sunrise Vista Kiwanis efforts to provide cultural development for youth residing within the Vista Unified School District or participating in a Vista program. May 24 (Saturday) – Vista Village Chocolate Festival / Baking Contest. Entries must be dropped off at the Vista Village Business Association office located at 127 Main Street before 10 a.m. Judging will be at 11:00 a.m. with trophy presentation immediately following. The baked goods will be on display the following day at the Chocolate Festival for all to see and share the recipes. Click here for details and contest applications. July 4 (Friday) - City of Vista Independence Day Celebration and Fireworks at Brengle Terrace Park, 760-639-6151.

July 5 & 6 (Saturday & Sunday) – The Antique Gas and Steam Museum will host a two-day Civil War Reenactment from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day.  The 40-acre museum is located at 2040 N. Santa Fe Ave. in Vista.  For more information visit their website at www.agsem.com or call (800) 587-2286.

Aug. 3 (Sunday) - Rod Run showcases Custom Cars, Hot Rods and car-related vendors. Presented by the Vista Village Business Association on Main Street in downtown Vista. Live entertainment and opportunity drawings will also be featured. Application is available at www.VistaRodRun.com. The VVBA is looking for corporate sponsors and items to put in goodie bags for all entrants, such as pens, keychains, notepads, brochures, specials, discount coupons.
